Trend Alert: Denim Vests

Now that the weather has been hitting the low to mid-60s, it’s time to toss aside our jackets and start thinking about more Spring-friendly outerwear. Reminiscent of the 80s, the fashion industry has been reviving the denim vest.

Since a lot of my friends are metalheads, it’s not unusual for me to see them rocking theirs with all sorts of band patches and button pins. And that’s the beauty of this trend – you can be as creative as you want, and tailor it towards your own individual style. If you’re the arts and crafts type, or just plain adventurous, you can make it a DIY project. There are plenty of tutorials on the internet for refashioning denim: acid washing, cropping, lace paneling, and installing studs/spikes, just to name a few.

Since I prefer a little feminine touch to everything, I decided to purchase a embellished denim vest from Hong Kong on eBay. With its silver sequins, chains, rhinestones, and deconstruction, it was practically screaming my name. And for less than $15 with free shipping, I wasn’t going to pass it up. :P

Personally, I have a rule when it comes to denim: Only one piece at a time. I’m not about that blue collar look, if you know what I mean. With that said, this trend makes a simple outfit look edgier. I can see it working well with black leggings and a casual t-shirt or tanktop, but wearing it over a colorful patterned dress or skirt this Spring is just as chic.

Since the weather was gorgeous this past weekend, le boyfriend and I took a walk by the local marina before going out on a sushi date. Predictably, I brought my camera in hopes of finding an opportunity to snap some photos. I wore my new vest over a black maxi dress that I’ve had since high school.

Retail Therapy

Since I was sick all this week, to the point that I missed a few classes, and was actually starting to feel a little better by yesterday afternoon.. I decided that going shopping would be the best thing to do in order to cheer myself up. : )

As regular readers of this blog may know, I’ve lost a significant amount of weight in a really short span of time – 15 lbs. in roughly 3 months. When I first set a goal to be 110 lbs., I promised myself that I wouldn’t buy clothes until I had reached it. Unfortunately, without adding exercise into my routine, I have currently plateaued and can no longer lose any more weight from just dieting alone (without starving myself). So I figured it wouldn’t hurt to go shopping. In fact, it was much easier! Now that I’ve dropped a size, trying on clothes in the fitting room makes me feel great about myself. :D

Anyway, I immediately walked into H&M when I arrived at the mall. I know that I’ve mentioned that I already had enough floral pieces in my wardrobe, but I couldn’t help myself – this dress was way too cute and only $14.50! Unfortunately, the lighting in this room was terrible.. so the colors shown in these photos may not be the most accurate. Here’s a close-up of the pattern:

While I was there, I also found a great pair of lacy bike shorts that reminded me of one of my earliest blog posts! You can read it here. : ) The great thing about these shorts was that they were the perfect length and super cheap! The rise is a little high, but I don’t mind. I plan to be wearing them peeking out from under short dresses and tunic tops all spring and summer! ; )

They look much cuter on my legs than on the floor. :P

After that, I spent a good amount of time digging through the messy racks of Forever 21. I eventually came across a drapey vest with a lace panel and bow on the back that was practically screaming my name. To be honest, I don’t like how it’s worn here in the photos from the website – I imagine it going better with less casual outfits.

I also stopped by Gilly Hicks, which is slowly becoming one of my favorite stores to shop at! Mostly because the atmosphere makes you feel warmly welcomed and sexy – dimmed lights, strongly fragranced clothing racks, a huge selection of underwear and clothes in every color imaginable, super friendly employees, and a luxurious fitting room that looks like a small hotel suite. I may actually start shopping there more often. :P Anyway, they were having a sale on all tanktops and I picked this one out. I was going to buy the same style in two or three other colors, too, but that would have been going overboard. XD

And because I went to a party last night, I took the opportunity to wear two of my new acquisitions! ;D Sorry that I had to pixelate myself in this photo – I was making a really stupid face. :P Until next time! ^o^

My first experience with lip liner!

What do you guys think of lip liner? I used to think it was a trivial and unnecessary step in makeup application – I mean, what’s the point of wearing it if you’re just going to put lip gloss or lipstick over it? Boy, was I proved wrong. While I was at CVS yesterday buying a new eyebrow pencil, I came across the NYC Automatic Lip Liner in Naughty Nude. Because it was so cheap, I didn’t see any harm in purchasing it.

As you can see from the photos above, applying lip liner really defines the shape of your lips and gives the illusion of a fuller pout. What I usually have trouble giving definition to is my cupid’s bow, but using lip liner really made the dip stand out. ; ) And from what I experienced yesterday, it literally makes your lipstick LAST ALL DAY. I only had to apply once, and there was minimal fading or feathering of color – even after I ate! Overall, I’m impressed, but still feel that applying lip liner isn’t something I would do on a daily basis during my makeup routine. For special occasions like parties, business-casual meetings, concerts, or similar events, though, I would definitely put in the extra time. : )

In other news, I have two outfits from this week that  want to share with you guys – because this is a fashion/style blog, after all. And what kind of example would I be setting if I didn’t dress the part? :P Nothing fancy, though. These are just examples of what I wear to class when I’m in a good mood.

Also, I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it on here – but the reason I haven’t been buying or posting about my clothes lately (if at all) is because I don’t want to add anything to my wardrobe until I reach my goal weight (110 lbs) or at least somewhere close to it. As of right now, I’m only 10 lbs away.. so wish me luck and perseverance! But I doubt I’ll reach it anytime soon, especially since I went to Five Guys with my boyfriend today. <.<;
Until next time!
